Teresa Sullivan’s beaded sculptures and wearables occupy a unique place in the world of art and craft, drawing inspiration from ancient Yoruba beadwork, pulp fiction illustration, and independent culture.
Exhibiting her work since 1995 throughout the U.S., she was invited to show at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2008. In 2009 she was one of 18 artists selected for Interweave’s Beadwork VI: The Beaded Book. In 2010 her solo exhibit, “Station Identification”, debuted at Mesa Arts Center. Ornament magazine Volume 33, Number 3 (April 2010) features an article on her work.
Her work is featured in Lark Books’ 500 Beaded Objects; Beadwork, CRAFT, Ornament and Fiberarts magazines; the Dairy Barn’s Bead International exhibit catalogs, and www.extremecraft.com author Garth Johnson’s 1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse.
She is a gently transformative educator, having given workshops across the US since 1997. As one Michigan student says, “You got the skills into me despite my fears.”
